I’m writing another cookbook! It’s big news and a major change in my life. But this will be much more than a cookbook. It will be a journey into the soul of Bhutan, a window to the original Shangri-La, a collection of true stories about how I found balance and peace in the Kingdom of Happiness. Yep.
I have some important news to tell you. On a recent trip to the Himalayas, I met a very special Bhutanese Lama, which set off a series of serendipitous events in my life. At the same time, as fate would have it, I was forced out of my home and teaching studio in the US (my landlord doubled my rent), so I took a chance, put my things in storage, and traveled to Bhutan. This is a small country the size of Maryland located in the Himalayas between India and Tibet. There I found a culture of kindness and a Buddhist tradition of integrity that is pure to the roots. It’s as if I found the Eastern mind almost unaltered by time. I trekked in the mountains, breathed fresh air, visited monasteries, and traced the footprints of ancient saints in caves.
I married Lama D, and immediately inherited his enormous family of loving and capable people. Bhutan has been off-limits to tourists until recently. It’s a beautiful land of 70% forest, clean waters, pristine air, no chemtrails, and no industrial farming chemicals. Bhutan is the only carbon negative country in the world. The people of Bhutan care for their families, and the children are respectful to their elders. I am certified to teach English as a Foreign Language, and I can work teaching English.
Lama D is a teacher of modern Buddhist philosophy. He grew up on a red rice farm, is the eldest son in a huge family, and graduated in Buddhist studies. He teaches practical spiritual equanimity and non-reaction. Lama D and his family are helping me write recipes and travel to photograph the natural beauty of the country. My new book will be a rich, multi-sensory guide with stories and recipes. It will be for tourists, trekkers, armchair travelers, and food lovers, with stunning images and intimate first-hand experiences of Bhutan’s cultural traditions, breathtaking landscapes, and authentic cuisine.
It’s a new life of great beauty, simplicity, and challenge. We’re planning a series of workshops about healthy food and lifestyle. Our new family tour business is White Tiger Bhutan Tours. Come visit us in Bhutan! To get a visa into Bhutan you must book your travel through a government registered tour company. I also have a weekly travel blog. Click here if you wish to subscribe to my travel blog. Not sure what will happen next. Please stay tuned! It will take me a while to finish the new book. Click below to preview the proposal.
